Gooey cheesy Babybel goodness and deliciously crunchy tortilla chips meet in this super simple air fryer recipe.
I saw this recipe on Fabulously Frugal recently, and I was desperate to give it a try. All the way until I got them out of the air fryer, I feared these might be another one of my air fryer disasters, but thankfully not!
I only tried making four, just as a sample, before making more in the future - which I definitely will do. They went down a storm with the family, and me - and even Charlie had a little nibble too!
There is quite a bit of prep to do to begin with. You have to get yourself a small bowl of plain flour, an egg (which needs a good whisk), and then some tortilla chips (the fun bit is smashing them up!) And the Babybels, obviously...
Fabulously Frugal does mention that you should freeze the Babybels for a little while before attempting this recipe, but I thought I'd chance it. The only result being that my efforts were more gooey than a frozen Babybel (I kind of like that though!)
How to make air fryer Babybel tortilla chip bites
When making these, you have to set a little factory line up. Firstly the Babybels go in the flour, then the egg, then the smashed-up tortilla chips. Repeat all of those steps once more, before you pop them in a lightly oiled air fryer. I'm warning you in advance that your hands can get a bit messy.
Once you've got them all ready, set your air fryer to 190C for six minutes. I gave mine a shake halfway through just to stop them sticking to the bottom of the air fryer.
And that's it!
Crunchy and crispy on the outside and delightfully gooey on the inside. These gorgeous little cheesy blissful bites make a great snack or treat!
This time around, I used ready salted Aldi own-brand tortilla chips, but I think it'd be fun to try lots of different flavours to see how they interact with the cheese.
